For small business owners

Health insurance for your small business, without the guesswork.

Whether it's just you or you have a team, I'll compare group plans and individual options side by side and show you what actually fits your budget.

Sound familiar?

  • Your group renewal came in higher again, and you're not sure what else is out there.
  • You want to offer benefits to hire and keep good people, but a big group plan feels out of reach.
  • It's just you (or you and your spouse), so you're not sure a group plan is even an option.

Your options, in plain English

There isn't one right answer for every business. The best setup depends on how many people you employ, your budget, and how much you want to contribute. Here's what we'll look at together:

  • Small group health plans. A traditional plan your business offers to employees. You choose the plan and contribute toward premiums. Carriers usually require that a minimum share of eligible employees enroll.
  • Individual plans for owner-only businesses. If you have no employees other than yourself or your spouse, you usually can't buy a small group plan. Individual and family coverage, including private plans, is often the better fit.
  • Dental, vision, and supplemental benefits. Lower-cost add-ons your team will actually use, which can make your benefits package more competitive.

I'll lay out what each option would cost you and your employees, side by side, so you can decide with real numbers.

Why owners work with me

I take the time to lay out your options and tell you where each one is strong and where it isn't. After you enroll, I'm still the person you and your employees call with questions, claims issues, and renewals.

Most of my small business clients are owners who wear every hat already. My job is to take this one off your plate.

Self-employed with no employees?

If you're a one-person business, take a look at my guide to health insurance for the self-employed. Many owners can also deduct their health insurance premiums; ask your tax professional how that applies to you.

Tell me a little about your situation and I'll put your private and Marketplace options side by side. I usually reach out within one business day, and there's never a cost to you.

Common questions

How many employees do I need for a small group plan?

In most states, you need at least one eligible employee who isn't the owner or the owner's spouse. Carriers also set participation rules, meaning a minimum share of eligible employees has to enroll. I'll check the exact rules for your state and carrier.

Do I have to pay for my employees' coverage?

Carriers usually require the employer to contribute toward employee premiums, often a set percentage. How much beyond that minimum is up to you, and I'll show you what different contribution levels would cost.

Can I offer dental and vision without a health plan?

Often, yes. Many carriers offer standalone group dental and vision. It's a lower-cost way to start offering benefits.

When can my business start a plan?

Small group plans can generally start any month of the year, so you don't have to wait for open enrollment.
